About the Lab

CompIN Lab at Xidian University is led by Zhiyuan Ren. Our vision is to make the network a computer. We investigate architectures that bring networking and computing together through SRv6, programmable networks, and DPUs, with a focus on edge computing, in-network computing, and computation offloading. Across LEO satellite constellations, UAV swarms, the Internet of Things, vehicular networks, and data centers, we study decentralized collaborative computing and high-speed stream processing. We aim to let switches compute as they process packets, making suitable computing resources accessible wherever and whenever they are needed.

Research Context

As computation moves toward the edge and into the network, applications need low latency, high throughput, and predictable performance across devices, networks, and clouds. SRv6, programmable data planes, and DPUs enable network infrastructure to participate directly in computation.

Our Mission

Build a programmable, measurable, and schedulable network computer. Applications should be able to use an entire network as a computing system, with theoretical results validated on real testbeds.
